Eligibility Criteria for Admission in PhD in Islamic Sciences
a – Research Topic Purely in Islamic Studies
For a research topic purely related to Islamic studies / Islamic theology:
- The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies or equivalent.
b – Interdisciplinary Research Topic
For an interdisciplinary research topic in the areas of Islamic social sciences, pure or applied sciences, or humanities:
- The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject and a research proposal should be submitted along with the application to justify the research topic.
However, the holders of these degrees must have sound Islamic knowledge. The candidates who do not have strong Islamic background are required to send their transcripts to the university. Such applicants, however, might be Required to study complementary subjects (to be determined by the Higher Degrees Committee on a case-by-case basis) as part of conditional acceptance. The period of complementary studies will not be included in the doctoral degree duration.
Research Proposals should outline:
- Introduction – background of the topic
- Research Objectives
- Research Questions
- Knowledge/Research gap
- Dissertation Outline
- Literature Review
- Research Methodology
It must be prepared in 2 to 3 pages.
Successful completion of the interview for admission.
Course Work
The following two courses need to be successfully completed (80% passing marks) in the first semester for promotion to the second semester.

Language Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English (academic and scientific English), in addition to an intermediate comprehension of Arabic. In some special Cases, thesis may be allowed to be conducted in Arabic if it is approved by the Respective authority of the university.
